The Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has handed over working tools and financial support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality to enhance their livelihoods and promote economic independence.
The ceremony was held on Monday, 27th July 2026 at the forecourt of the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly. The programme forms part of the Assembly's commitment to inclusive development and the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation for Persons with Disabilities.
The exercise was led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kalamu Musah Adamu, and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Vera Akuffo-Mante, together with traditional leaders, clergy, Zongo community leaders, and Heads of Departments and Units of the Assembly. The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development facilitated the programme in collaboration with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD).
Beneficiaries received various working tools and financial assistance based on their assessed needs and business plans. Items presented included deep freezers, sewing machines, baking ovens, televisions, laptops, pepper grinding machines, fufu grinding machines, sound systems, industrial equipment and financial support for business expansion and education.
In his address, Hon. Kalamu Musah Adamu congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to use the items for their intended purposes to improve their economic well-being. He emphasized the importance the Government attaches to the welfare of PWDs, which has led to an increase in the DACF allocation for PWDs from 3% to 5%. He cautioned beneficiaries against the sale of the items, stating that the Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development and the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), would conduct regular monitoring to ensure sustainability. He further warned against moving from one district to another to benefit again from the same support.
The beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the Government and the Assembly for the support and pledged to put the items to good use to enhance their livelihoods.
