The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Musah Adamu Kalamu, undertook a critical site inspection of the ongoing dredging works at the Sakaman and Lafa storm drains.
For many years, these major drainage channels have posed serious flooding challenges to residents, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. During the inspection, heavy-duty equipment was seen actively removing accumulated silt, solid waste, and overgrown vegetation that had obstructed the drains and significantly reduced water flow capacity.
The Sakaman and Lafa drains serve as vital flood control channels for surrounding communities. When left unattended, the resulting floods can lead to property destruction, displacement of residents, and disruption of economic activities and livelihoods.
The ongoing dredging exercise demonstrates the Assembly’s proactive approach to flood prevention and environmental management, aimed at improving drainage efficiency and protecting lives and property within the municipality.
The inspection reaffirmed the commitment of both the MP and the MCE to responsive, people-centered leadership focused on addressing the pressing needs of the community.
