As directed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, that all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembles( MMDAs)to organize clean up exercises on Friday, Feb 28, 2025, the Ablekuma north swiftly responded to the call.
The exercise commenced in the early hours of 6am and ended around 2pm. Out of the 14 electoral areas, 7 of them were considered very filthy, were desilting, sweeping and collection of refuse were done thoroughly.
The seven electoral areas were Kwashiebu, Darkuman East, Amoanaa, Nyamekye, Darkuman West and Kwashiman, all under the Kwashiman Zonal Council.
The clean up exercise called for a collective action by hon assembly members of the municipal assembly, Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments and some other officials of the assembly.
The initiative is to address filth engulfed in the municipality and Greater Accra as a whole, in order to promote a cleaner environment.
Though residents within those catchment areas were shortly notified, most of them joined hands for an effective cleaning. Shops and businesses in the designated areas closed their shops and halted commercial activities.
Hon. Alhaji Ibrahim Suley urged residents to adhere strictly to sanitation bye- laws, otherwise recalcitrants would be brought to book without any consideration when caught.
