TRAINING ON THE IMPORTANCE OF LEAVE

As part of the Capacity Building (job training) required by all officers and staff of the Local Government Services, the Human Resource Department of the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, 31st May, 2023 took the Municipal Guards, Cleaners, and Labourers of the Assembly through the importance of leave. The facilitator for the training Madam Dorcas Yeboah explained that leave is a vital Human Resource Management Mechanism that ensures the promotion of a healthy and productive workforce and organizational development. She went further to state that in accordance with the Labour Act 2003(ACT), 651 all workers in the public service shall be entitled to the various types of leave to ensure that all employees have time to rest during the year and attend to other personal issues. Madam Dorcas Yeboah outlined the various types of leave namely; Annual leave, Study leave, Sick leave, Maternity leave, Examination leave, Compassionate and Casual leave, Leave of Absence, and many others. She hinted that leave in any one year may not be carried forward to the next year unless in exceptional cases with the approval of the head of the organization through the Human Resource Department. On the procedures for applying for leave, Madam Dorcas Yeboah indicated that a worker shall submit an application to the Human Resources Department three (3) weeks prior to the commencement of the leave, then a notice of approval of annual leave shall be given to the worker at least one week before proceeding on leave. She added that workers shall prepare and submit handing over notes to a designated staff before proceeding on leave and also leave granted but not utilized is forfeited. Participants asked several questions pertaining to their leave and these questions were answered accordingly. They showed contentment to the management of the Assembly for organizing this all-important training session since most of the Municipal Guards, Labourers, and Cleaners were oblivion of such benefits
