Social Welfare and Community Development


Department of Social Welfare and Community Development renders services to Individuals, Families, Groups, Communities and the Nation as a whole.

CORE PROGRAMMES: The department, operates in three core programs: Child Rights Promotion and Protection, Community Care and Social Protection, and partly Juvenile Justice System.
Child Rights Promotion and Protection (Social Case Work), Child maintenance, Child custody and access, Paternity of the child, Child abuse/Child Labor/child Trafficking/Child Neglect, Child in need of help and Family welfare/ reconciliation, Integration of missing but found children.

Community care; Assists and facilitates provision of community care services which includes; Mobilization and registration of Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs), Rights of PWDs/Rehabilitation of PWDs, Assistance to the aged, Assistance to street/ needy children, counseling children to conform to social norms and recommending institutional care when necessary, Socio-economic and emotional stability of families, Processing NGOs for registration, Visiting, inspecting and processing Day Care/ Early Childhood Development Centre’s for registration, Home Science Services (Skills training in decoration, make-up, soap & beads making to mention but a few.), Adult education, Extension Services i.e. community Sensitization on social issues and Child Protection through the facilitation Tool Kit and Medical Social work (Hospital Welfare).

Social Protection: Social intervention programs including sensitization, registration and monitoring implementation in communities which fall under any form of government social intervention; LEAP- Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty under MGCSP
