WORK ART DAY CELEBRATED WITH STUDENTS AT SALERIA CLUSTER OF SCHOOLS IN PARTNERS WITH ABLEKUMA NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY AND THE CENTRE OF NATIONAL CULTURE
In the streets of Odorkor, Accra, excitement filled the air as students from various schools gathered at the Saleria Cluster for a celebration unlike any other. It was World Art Day, a day dedicated to the beauty and power of artistic expression. It is usually celebrated on 15th of April, the birthday of Leonardo de Vinci, one of the most famous artist in history. The theme for World Art Day 2024 is “A Garden of expression: Cultivating community through Art”. The Centre for National Culture also reffered to as the Culture and Tourism Department at the Ablekuman North Municipal Assembly, captured in its Annual Action plan for 2024 the world Art Day. The Idea is to leverage on the celebration to create awareness and importance of art and promote art tourism in the Municipality. Under the canopy of a bright April sky, the Culture and Tourism Department of the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture, orchestrated a vibrant event to commemorate this global celebration. As the clock struck 10:36 am, the festivities commenced with an opening prayer, setting the tone for a day filled with creativity and inspiration. Diana Ahenkorah, the Education Culture Coordinator, infused the gathering with enthusiasm, preparing the eager minds of students for the artistic journey ahead. Daniel Q. B. Akwada, the Municipal Cultural Officer, eloquently articulated the purpose of the gathering, echoing the sentiments of World Art Day's significance in fostering cultural exchange and human understanding. Amidst the buzz of anticipation, Mr. Adjin-Tettey, a seasoned artist, took the stage to impart the fundamentals of drawing. With patience and expertise, he guided the students through the intricate strokes of pencil and charcoal, igniting their imaginations with each line drawn. Meanwhile, Alfred Cran-Mensah, another talented artist, moved among the budding creators, offering guidance and encouragement as they brought their visions to life on paper. Tools and materials were distributed generously, allowing each participant to unleash their unique artistic flair. After a brief interlude filled with snacks and admiration of fellow artworks, the celebration resumed with a flourish. Mr. Cran-Mensah led the students in a mesmerizing display of painting techniques, demonstrating the magic of acrylics on canvas. With brushes in hand and hearts brimming with creativity, the students poured their souls onto the canvas, each stroke a testament to their boundless imagination. The result was a tapestry of color and emotion, a testament to the power of community and expression. Despite the challenges of limited resources and materials, and also the time for the program not being enough for students to finish their art work that’s time constraints, the spirit of World Art Day prevailed. As the sun dipped below the horizon, leaving streaks of orange and gold in its wake, the participants departed with hearts full of inspiration and minds ablaze with possibility. In the end, the Ablekuma North Municipality's edition of World Art Day proved to be a resounding success, a testament to the transformative power of art and the unwavering spirit of collaboration. And as the stars twinkled overhead, casting their gentle glow upon the world below, one thing became abundantly clear—creativity knows no bounds, and with each stroke of the brush, a garden of expression blooms anew.
